For the past 6 months, I've been slowly reducing the amount of clients I've been working with, and slowly ramping up the amount of stuff I produce for myself. If there is one tip I could give people in my position - that is, people who want to become self-sufficent, and truely be there own boss - and thats JUST SHIP IT.
The biggest hurdle I've EVER come across was that niggling thought in the back of my head telling me:
- Its not done yet
- You still haven't build feature X
- There are not enough tests, how do I know it won't break
- What if no-one wants to use it
But there came a point where I pushed on anyway - and all it took was me thinking "You know what, Just Ship It. Whats the worse that can happen?" - and it was the best thing I've ever done in my career.
So if you have those horrible kind of thoughts stopping you from taking the plunge with putting something out there - stop. Just Ship It.
